The 39th Infantry Regiment (Buffalo Soldiers) was an infantry unit of the U.S. Army established in 1866 after the Civil War, which was reorganized in April 1869 as part of the 24th Infantry Regiment with its headquarters at Fort Clark, Texas. The term "Buffalo Soldiers" was a nickname given by Native Americans to all-Black military regiments, including the 39th Infantry, known for their fierceness in battle and their service on the Western frontier protecting settlers and maintaining peace.
