The 31st Engineer Battalion was indeed stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, where it was inactivated on March 12, 1972, after serving in Vietnam. While it had a long history and other incarnations, the specific unit based at Fort Lewis was deactivated. Today, a unit using the 31st Engineer Battalion designation is based at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, under the 1st Engineer Brigade, and serves to train engineers and leaders for the Army.
