Camp Lockett in Campo, California was a <1941-1944> World War II-era U.S. Army base that housed the 10th and 28th Cavalry Regiments, who were part of the famed Buffalo Soldiers (an all-African American unit). The division's primary role was border patrol to guard against potential invasions from Mexico and the guarding of Italian prisoners of war. Camp Lockett is notable for being the last horse-mounted cavalry training facility built in the United States, marking the end of an era of horse cavalry in the American military.
