The 94th Cavalry Regiment, represented in the Minnesota Army National Guard by the 1st Squadron, 94th Cavalry, has a lineage tracing back to World War II. Initially, the lineage includes the 2nd Battalion, 136th Infantry, which served in the New Guinea campaign and the Battle of Luzon, earning a Philippine Presidential Unit Citation. Post-war, it became part of the 194th Armor before transitioning to the 1st Battalion of the 94th Armor in 1972. In 2005, it was reorganized as the 1st Squadron, 94th Cavalry, and deployed to Iraq in 2011-2012.
