The 5th Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment has a history of service in multiple conflicts, including World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Initially formed as part of the 1st Infantry Division, it later became part of the 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii and served as a mechanized unit in Vietnam. The 5th Infantry Regiment also saw action in the Mexican-American War and various campaigns in the American Indian Wars.
