Honor the Triple Nickles — America's First Black Paratroopers
The 555th Infantry Regiment — known as the Triple Nickles — holds a singular place in American military history. Activated in 1942 at Fort Benning, Georgia, the 555th became the first African American parachute infantry unit in the United States Army. In a time when segregation still defined much of American life, these soldiers broke barriers, shattered expectations, and proved beyond any doubt that courage and capability know no color. This premium 15oz black ceramic mug is a tribute to their trailblazing legacy.
Pioneers in the Sky — A Legacy That Changed the Army
The Triple Nickles didn't just serve — they pioneered. Trained as elite paratroopers at a time when the Army was still segregated, they were deployed on Operation Firefly, conducting smoke jumping missions across the Pacific Northwest to combat Japanese balloon bomb fires threatening American soil. Their mission was classified, their sacrifice unsung for decades — but their legacy endures. Every soldier who wears jump wings today stands on the shoulders of the Triple Nickles.

About the 555th Infantry Regiment – The Triple Nickles
The 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion was activated on December 30, 1942, at Fort Benning, Georgia — becoming the first all-Black parachute unit in US Army history. Despite facing racial discrimination at home, the Triple Nickles trained to the same grueling Airborne standard as any other paratrooper unit. Deployed on Operation Firefly in 1945, they conducted over 1,200 smoke jumping missions across Oregon, Washington, and California — a classified mission that remained largely unknown for years. The regiment was later consolidated and reorganized, and today its lineage is carried forward as a proud symbol of courage, integration, and the enduring fight for equality in the ranks of the US Army.
