The 4th Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment has a lineage tracing back to the early 19th century, with significant periods of service in various conflicts. The battalion's history includes participation in the War of 1812, the Civil War, World War I, and World War II, as well as later deployments. It was initially organized as a company in 1812, later consolidated and reorganized into different units, eventually becoming Company A, 4th Infantry in 1816.
