The 5th Battalion, 46th Infantry served with the 198th Infantry Brigade during the Vietnam War as part of the Americal (23rd Infantry) Division. Activated in 1967, the battalion was assigned to the 198th Brigade in March 1968 for combat operations in Vietnam, after which it was later assigned to the 23rd Infantry Division in February 1969.
