The 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment ("Black Lions") was part of the United States Army's 1st Infantry Division ("Big Red One"), a prominent unit stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas, until its inactivation in 2023. The battalion was known for its combat history, particularly earning the nickname "Lions of Cantigny" for its role in World War I. It was a key component of the division's "Dragon" brigade, which was restructured due to the Budget Control Act.
